The early Cheltenham Festival ante post betting is now well underway with many of the bookmakers putting up prices about the main contenders and races. Stan James are looking to spice up the rather stagnant Queen Mother Champion Chase and Champion Hurdle markets by betting without the current short-priced favourites Master Minded and Binocular and make Voy Por Ustedes (7/2) and Sublimity (6/1) their respective market leaders. The firm are also offering 14/1 that Denman wins both the Gold Cup and the Grand National in 2009 Interesting that even with Denman short in the Gold Cup are not betting on a market without him as everyone is holding fire until he runs in the Aon Chase at Newbury.

The Denman Grand national odds shortened considerably when it was confirmed that he will be entered for the race at the weekend. The plan it seems is to defend his Cheltenham Gold cup crown in March and then got for the National just three weeks later. Part owner, Paul Findlay has never made any secret of the fact that he would like Denman to compete in the worlds toughest race, believing that at age 9 years old he will be at his peak and at an age when he has the best chance. It is hard to believe that the Paul Nicholls stable is contemplating the National, particularly as Denman underwent an operation to rectify a heart mummer detected at the end of last season. By all accounts he has fully recovered from that setback and is raring to race again. His seasonal reappearance will be the Aon Chase at Newbury next month.

The Welsh National odds has Alan King's Nenuphar Collonges installed 7-1 clear favourite with totesport for next month's Coral Welsh National at Chepstow. His seasonal reappearance was in the Anne Duchess of Westminster Memorial Handicap Chase at Bangor in November where he was very game under top weight to make a winning return to chasing. His jumping was better than it has been and, as was the case last season, he showed it is a case of the stiffer the test the better for him. He looks the right type of horse for the Welsh National..

The Christmas Hurdle odds for the Christmas Hurdle betting race on Boxing day has the Fighting Fifth winner, Punjabi as the short priced favourite to win yet another big hurdling crown for the Seven Barrows trainer Nicky Henderson. With wins at all three big hurdling races last weekend, Henderson will unleash Punjabi to claim another big prize and it should be noted that Henderson believes Punjabi is every bit as good as Binocular.
