Roscommon Racecourse

The Roscommon racecourse is located one mile from Roscommon town on the Castlebar Road.1975. Roscommon racecourse is a right handed oval of 1 1/4 miles with a run in of 3 1/2 furlongs.

Roscommon racecourse has a great history in National Hunt. The very first race meeting was staged in 1837 and was organised by the British military which then had a base in the town. Racing took off in 1885 and has never stopped to this day apart from the period of the 2nd World War which was a 12 year period from 1936 to 1948. Roscommon racecourse is now regarded as a real test of a horse's ability for the Cheltenham Festival.
